    Ciao tutti!

Well, there are so many new things that have been going on here in Italy. One is that we found a church! It's an Assemblies of God church right here in Teramo! The people there are great and although the service is all in Italian, there is one family that speaks English pretty well so they translate for us. Praise God! So it's great being around other fellow believers and even though we have some what of a language barrier, we are connected through the Lord. We even got to eat with two different families in their homes and fellowship with them. We had a great time!

Well, as far as basketball is concerned, our team is doing great! We are now 6 - 4 and on our way to hopefully making the Italian Cup for the first time in history. I'm playing decently, averaging about 9 points and 4 rebounds per game. Hopefully, we continue our success as a team and make it to the playoffs!

We also had our first visitor in October!! Kevin Walker (remember, you have to say his name with a British accent!)! It was a great time! We went to Rome, La Fortezza del Tronto, Giulianova, and Rieti. While in Rome, we saw all the main historical points but the most memorable was seeing the Cupola of St. Peter's Basilica. In order to get up to the top of the dome, we had to climb up 320 steps in a very narrow and slanted passage way! You talk about work! Once we got to the top it was well worth it. The 360 degree view from up there was amazing! You could practically see all of Rome. Then after all the excitement, we were able to break our Italian taste buds with some Hard Rock Cafe! Good old nachos with cheddar cheese, hamburger with angus beef, and real barbecue sauce! There are plenty of other stories we could share while Kevin was here, like his fine ability to walk up stairs, and our performance on iMovie, but we won't! When you go to our site to view the photos in the media gallery, you'll see a few pictures of Kevin while he was out here. (Kevin - to you here's a "Cheers!")

And last but not least, we have update our media gallery page with new pictures from Rome, The Vatican, La Fortezza del Tronto, and Rieti. There are photos of the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps, the Pantheon, the American Embassy, different fountains, and of course the Vatican. La Fortezza del Tronto is an old fortress that now serves as a historical point in Italy. Then there are a few photos of Rieti and some small towns on the way to Rieti (where Tara and Kevin drank the "smelly water"). There's even a picture of Kevin's french fry pizza in the Teramo, Italy link!

Well, time to sign off. Chat with everyone later.

  • What's Been Going On...

    Hello Everyone,

I am so thankful for all your prayers and your emails. They have been so encouraging over these last two years. It’s really great hearing all of the stories of how I was able to be a blessing to many of you. You don’t know how much joy I get from reading each of your emails. For this reason have decided to start a blog so I will be able to share to all of you what God is doing in my life. Kenny Kim (our webmaster), my wife, and I have been trying to keep you all updated by downloading pictures on the website, but I felt it was necessary to personally address you on a consistent basis.

Now to update you on my injury, as many of you know I broke the roof of my mouth. It was really interesting! I didn’t know my mouth could break like that! It was totally a different experience. The funny thing is the pain was not bad at all. I guess I was pretty tough at least until they told me I had to eat out of a straw for about two weeks! All my toughness went straight out the window! The first thought I had was all this good Italian food and now I have to watch and smell for two weeks. I almost broke down ?. But I remembered Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Now almost three weeks have past and praise the Lord, I can eat!!! Life is great! You never realize how big little blessings are until they are gone… like eating food with a fork not a straw. The doctors told me I had to sit out of every game for about a month maybe longer. But I didn’t believe that. That would have meant I would not be able to play the first three games; my God is bigger than that. My month is healing quickly and there is a good chance I’m going to play the second game. (Phil 4:13) I started practice about a week ago. I just can’t do any contact play until I get my mouthpiece, which I believe will arrive this Friday. So that’s good news, because it was really hard for me just watching the guys play. I hate just watching because I really love playing and having an injury to the mouth can be deceiving because your body feels great and you feel like you can play but one hit to mouth and you’re done. So I had to run stairs and shoot free throws, which is not so bad. I needed the extra work.

Well enough about the injury, Italy has been great! Tara and I have had a chance to really get acclimated with everything here. We are learning the language and Tara is has learned how to cook the food pretty quickly. Although we in America make pasta all the time, the pasta here is different. After you get used to it, you really grow to like it. Recently Tara and I went to Rome and it was really cool. We took a bus tour of the whole city and we did a group tour of the Coliseum, which probably was the highlight of the trip. We have many pictures that will be added to the website of our recent trip to Rome. Well my friends, family, and fans there is so much to tell but you will have to wait until later. I wish I could call you all but that would take too long so I will continue to communicate with my Mac. That is Mac not PC! ? I love you all and I will be in touch.

  • Teramo, Italy

    Ciao everyone!

Teramo, Italy is beautiful and it's been great so far. The food is good just different from the italian food we're used to in the states. Probably right now the hardest thing for us is the language, since hardly anyone here speaks English, and Roger being in the hospital! On Friday, during practice Roger was hit in the face with an elbow and broke the arch of his top front teeth! But he had surgery early Saturday morning and is doing great now. He has no pain and is ready to play again! The only thing he's wanting to do now is eat solid food but that will come in the next few days. Thank you for all the prayers, they are greatly appreciated! As soon as we get out of the hospital, which will be on Tuesday, we will put up photos of Italy and our basketball camp this past August!

    Ciao and Much love,
    Roger and Tara
